About the Area
The World Around the Green
Ciudad Quesada is a remarkable place — a purpose-built residential urbanisation in the municipality of Rojales that has grown, over four decades, into one of the most complete and sought-after communities on the Costa Blanca South. Positioned on a gentle hill between the salt lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja, the urbanisation enjoys panoramic views stretching all the way to the Mediterranean, yet sits just 6 kilometres from the sea.
The story of Ciudad Quesada begins in 1972, when Orihuela-born entrepreneur Justo Quesada purchased land south of Rojales with a vision to create a world-class residential community. The centrepiece of that vision — the Quesada Golf Club, later renamed La Marquesa Golf & Country Club — opened in 1989, and around its fairways grew a community that today numbers some 30,000 homes. The famous Sawgrass-style island 17th hole has become one of the most photographed in Spain.
Today, approximately 60% of residents are international, with over 6,000 British nationals making Ciudad Quesada their home alongside large Irish, Dutch, Scandinavian, French, and German communities. This international character has shaped a uniquely welcoming social fabric: English is widely spoken, international schools serve families, and an extraordinary range of clubs, societies, and social events ensures that newcomers are never without company.

Golf
La Marquesa Golf & Country Club
La Marquesa Golf & Country Club is the beating heart of Ciudad Quesada. Founded in 1989 as the Quesada Golf Club, it was the original catalyst for the entire urbanisation and remains its most celebrated attraction. The 18-hole championship course winds through the hillside landscape with dramatic elevation changes, mature trees, and the Mediterranean visible in the distance.
The course's signature hole — the par-3 17th — is modelled on the famous island green at TPC Sawgrass in Florida, and has become one of the most photographed and talked-about holes in Spain. Whether you're a low handicapper or a social golfer, La Marquesa delivers a memorable round in an exceptional setting.
The club is complemented by La Laguna Hotel (approximately 100 rooms), a golf academy, pro shop, practice facilities, and a clubhouse restaurant. Several other top-quality courses — including La Finca Golf Resort, Vistabella Golf, and the Orihuela Costa courses — are within 15–25 minutes.
Coast & Nature
Beaches, Lakes & Natural Parks
One of Ciudad Quesada's most compelling attributes is its position at the intersection of three distinct natural landscapes. To the west, the urbanisation rises above the shimmering salt lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja — a UNESCO-recognised natural park where flamingos wade in the pink-tinged water and walking trails wind through protected scrubland. To the south, the Mediterranean coast is just 6 kilometres away.
Guardamar del Segura beach — just 8 minutes by car — is widely regarded as one of the finest beaches on the Costa Blanca South. Its extraordinary setting, backed by a protected pine forest planted in the 19th century to stabilise the dunes, gives it a character quite unlike any other beach in the region. The water is crystal clear, the sand is golden, and Blue Flag status is maintained year after year.
The Marina de las Dunas yacht club, 15 minutes away, offers sailing, windsurfing, diving, and watersports. The Laguna de la Mata Natural Park, 10 kilometres from Quesada, is a haven for birdwatchers and walkers. And the beaches of Torrevieja, La Zenia, and Playa Flamenca are all within 20–25 minutes.

Community
A Community That Welcomes You
What makes Ciudad Quesada truly special is not just its physical attributes — the golf, the beaches, the climate — but the extraordinary sense of community that has developed within it. With approximately 60% of residents being international, and over 6,000 British nationals among them, the urbanisation has developed a social infrastructure that rivals many towns in the UK or Ireland.
Clubs and societies cover everything from bridge and billiards to running, dancing, darts, and drama. The Sunday market brings residents together over fresh produce and local crafts. A modern shopping centre on the main street provides everyday convenience, while dozens of restaurants, bars, and cafés — many catering specifically to British and Irish tastes — ensure that the social calendar is never empty.
International schools including Willow Academy, Den Norske Skolen, and Berlingua International School make Quesada a genuine option for families with children. Healthcare is excellent, with both public and private facilities readily accessible. And the urbanisation's compact size — just 3 square kilometres — means that everything is within comfortable walking distance.
